# How to keep a daily care log for a reptile

> A reptile care log records the jobs your care plan sets, on the days they happen: feeding days and what was offered, water and misting, enclosure checks, spot cleans and deep cleans, sheds, and regular weights. Because many reptile routines are not daily, the log is how you know what is due today and when something last happened.

## Why keep a care log for a reptile?

Reptile care runs on a calendar more than a clock. Feeding may happen every few days, deep cleans weekly or monthly, and sheds come when they come. Without a record, "when did she last eat?" turns into a guess, and small changes are easy to miss.

A log replaces the guess with a date. It also makes it easy to hand the routine to someone else while you are away.

## What should a reptile care log include?

Include every job your care plan sets, plus the events you want to remember. Your exotic vet or a reptile specialist sets the plan for your species; the log is where you keep to it.

| Entry | When to log it | What to note |
|-|-|-|
| Feeding | Each feeding day | What was offered, and whether it was eaten |
| Water | Each change or refill | Anything unusual |
| Misting or humidity | Each time you mist, or as your plan sets | Readings if your plan asks for them |
| Enclosure check | Each check of heat and lighting | Readings, and anything not working |
| Spot clean | Each time | Nothing, unless something looked unusual |
| Deep clean | Each time | The date, for the next one |
| Shed | When it starts and ends | Whether it came off in one piece, with a photo if useful |
| Weight | On a regular schedule | The weight, same scale, same time of day |

Keep notes factual: what you saw and when. Ask your vet about anything that worries you.

## How do you set up a reptile log step by step?

Allow about ten minutes, with your care plan to hand.

1. **Add your reptile as a pet.** In Paw Crew, choose Other as the species and add the name, a photo, and the details you have, such as the hatch or adoption day.
2. **Turn the care plan into schedules.** For each recurring job, pick the matching repeat: every few days for feeding, set times for misting, weekly or monthly for deep cleans.
3. **Create log types for reptile jobs.** Use the built-in types where they fit, such as Fed and Water. Custom log types, such as Misting, Shed or Enclosure check, are part of Paw Crew Pro.
4. **Set reminders for the jobs that are easy to forget.** Feeding days and deep cleans are the usual ones. Reminders repeat every few days, weekly or monthly on a date.
5. **Log as you go.** Tap the log type when you do the job. Add a note for what was offered and whether it was eaten, or a photo of a shed.
6. **Weigh on a schedule.** Use the same scale at the same time of day. Paw Crew shows weight in kilograms or pounds, following your region, as a list and a simple chart.

## How do you keep track of feeding days?

Use a repeating reminder on the cycle your care plan sets, and log every feeding, including the ones that were refused. A reptile that skips a meal is not unusual in some species and seasons, but a run of refused meals is something to tell your vet about, and only a log shows the run.

In Paw Crew, a reminder set to every few days shows the next feeding day on the pet's page, so on a non-feeding day there is simply nothing due.

## How do you record sheds?

Log a shed when it starts and when it finishes, with a photo if anything looks unusual. The dates show how often your reptile sheds, and the photo shows your vet what you saw.

## Can a sitter follow the log while you are away?

Yes. Invite the sitter through household sharing before you leave. They see the same reminders and the same history, and what they log shows their name. When you return, the log tells you exactly what happened each day.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I add a reptile, lizard or snake to Paw Crew?

Yes. Choose Other as the species. Every logging and reminder feature works the same for any pet.

### How often should I feed my reptile?

That depends on the species, age and size, so ask your exotic vet or a reptile specialist. Paw Crew doesn't provide veterinary advice. Always consult your vet.

### Can Paw Crew remind me every few days instead of every day?

Yes. Reminders can repeat every few days, weekly, monthly on a date, at set times each day, or every few hours.

### Can I log enclosure temperature or humidity readings?

Yes, as a note on a log entry. For example, a custom Enclosure check log type with the readings in the note.

### Do I need Paw Crew Pro for a reptile?

No. The free version covers one pet with the full log and reminders. Pro is a one-time purchase that adds unlimited pets and custom log types, among other things.
